Lichchavi Republic
It was the largest and powerful state in the ancient republics located in Bihar during the Buddha period. This republic was founded by Vishal, the son of the sun dynasty king Ishvaku, who later became known as 'Vaishali'.
According to Mahavagga Jataka, Lichchhavi was a rich prosperous city of Vajjasingh. There were many beautiful buildings, chaityas and viharas here.
The Lichchhavis built the famous Katagarashala at Mahavan for the prevention of Mahatma Buddha.
Chelna, the daughter of King Chetak, was married to Magadh King Bimbisara.
In the 8th century BC, the Lichchavi monarchy of Vaishali was converted into a republic.
Vishal established the city of Vaishali. The first ruler of the Vaishalika dynasty was Namnekhta, while the last king was Suti or Pramati. There have been 24 kings in this dynasty.
In ancient Nepal, there was a dominion called Lichchhavi, Lichchavi was from the ancient Vaishali city of northern Bihar in present-day India who invaded and conquered Kathmandu.
The inscriptions had the script of the Lichchhavis which suggests that it had significant cultural influence from other major dominions of central India to the south. It is currently located mainly in India and a small part of it is in Nepal.
